A couple of new things
Last weekend was a first. Here's a few of the things that happened:
- I went to Fleet Week - 8 years in the Bay Area and I've never been down around Marina Green to watch the jets. A very cool experience that I recommend for anyone. Kennedy had a great time.
- Because it was our first time, I did not know where to go or what to do. ChatGPT made the plan, told us where to go, what to do, really a seamless experience. Not a first, as we use AI all the time at this point, but it's really got past the point of being the best option for most things when doing something new.
- While we were there I had a Claude session running on my phone connected to my server back home, where I started a game decomp project before heading out for the day. Over the past couple of weeks the decomp trend has really gained traction and I jumped on the bandwagon porting a few Windows games to Android... from my phone... while watching jets. I think I interacted with it a total of 4-5 times. When I got home it was up and running on device. Wild.
- Kennedy spent her first overnight at a friend's place.
- Because Kennedy spent the night, we got a date night (which admittedly is not a first but happens rarely enough that I am counting it for the purposes of this post).
- It was a good excuse to try Meta Muse for some real-world tasks. Muse booked both a hotel for us in SF and made our restaurant reservation at Via Aurelia. I'll admit that I was worried letting an agent make purchases for me (both the hotel and restaurant required a CC hold), but it was flawless and both the hotel and the restaurant were great picks. I loved the simplicity of 'just letting my agent' handle it.
- When we got home Sunday night, Claude helped me create a server for my home thermostat -- it's now collecting data every minute about my internal temp and the external temp from several nearby home weather stations and creating a model about how efficient our home is and a plan to optimize the internal temp for comfort and energy savings... it will then automatically set the temp inside our home.
That's a bunch of new stuff. Nothing about it is new in that it was not possible before - but it's just so easy now. Any one thing on its own is interesting and fun... the fact that they all happened at the same time without much friction and generally just worked shows that things have gotten wild, and in many ways I don't think we've scratched the surface. Lots more to learn.
